Justin Schmitt, Head of School
Justin is the founding Head of School for Great Plains Academy, a Mosaica Online School. Justin began working in online education in 2009 as a virtual Social Studies instructor. Justin received his Bachelor’s degree in U.S. History with an emphasis on secondary education from Fort Lewis College. Justin additionally holds a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. While attending Grand Canyon University Justin had the opportunity to learn what it is like to be an online student. The experiences of online student, teacher, and administrator have been valuable for him as he endeavors to help build a premier online school in the state of Colorado. Prior to entering the world of online education Justin worked in the brick and mortar setting in a variety of capacities, including: Social Studies teacher, Reading Intervention Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Varsity Boys Basketball coach. Justin is an avid sports fan who enjoys watching, coaching and participating in athletics. Justin is a native of Southwest Colorado, but he currently lives in Castle Rock, Colorado with his wife and their 3 children. The family enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling around the great state of Colorado.
Stephanie Dunbar, Director of eLearning
Stephanie joined Mosaica Online as the Director of eLearning in March 2009 where she oversees the program implementation and operations for Mosaica Online schools and partnerships. She has over 19 years of experience in public, charter and online education. Stephanie began her education career as a social studies teacher at Dacula High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She helped develop the original program offerings for Gwinnett County Online Campus in 1999 and later became the lead teacher for social studies and language arts. When the Georgia Department of Education created the Georgia Virtual School Program in 2005, Stephanie transferred to the state program as a Program Coordinator and later as Program Manager for the state initiative. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree from Bard College and a Master’s degree in Teaching from Emory University. She has also completed her Gifted certification. Stephanie has been a member of the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) since its inception and has served on committees to develop the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching as well as the National Standards for Quality Online Courses. Currently she is the committee chair for the Georgia iNACOL committee. Stephanie lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, their three children and many pets.
Leigh Tillman, Manager of eLearning
Leigh joined Mosaica Online in 2010 with over 18 years of experience working in education. After teaching in the face-to-face classroom for eight years, she began to pursue teaching opportunities in virtual education. She taught high school mathematics courses for Georgia Virtual School (GAVS) from 2005 until 2006 and soon became the Mathematics Department Chair. She served as Department Chair for 2 years, and then accepted a full-time position as Manager of Instruction with GAVS. In that role, she managed over 100 teachers, developed new and edited current course content, taught Professional Development courses for teachers, and managed the Language Arts, Mathematics, and World Languages Departments. In July of 2009, she accepted a position with Kaplan Virtual Education as Curriculum Manager for Mathematics. Leigh worked with aligning content to various state standards, editing and creating content, and acted as a liaison between the Curriculum Department and the Mathematics Department. She also hosted multiple online Professional Development courses for teachers. In March of 2010, Leigh joined Mosaica Online as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Coordinator and served in this role until 2012, when she was named Manager of eLearning. In her current role, she serves as the learning environment administrator, as well as supervisor of the Instructional Coordinators. Leigh lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband and two children.
Gabby Bray, Instructional Coordinator
Gabby joined Mosaica Online as a teacher and Instructional Coordinator in January 2013 with over 17 years of experience in public, private, charter and online education. She now oversees the English Language Arts, Social Studies, Paragon™ Humanities and World Languages departments. She began teaching at Berkmar High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She taught at Berkmar for 5 years before transferring to teach at Grayson High School in Gwinnett County. In 2002, Gabby began teaching for Gwinnett Online Campus as well as Apex Learning. Gabby is an honors graduate from the University of Georgia and holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Science Education as well as a master’s degree in Secondary Social Science Education. Gabby has also completed her gifted certification and has been through the College Board’s AP® training and the AP® Audit process in AP® American Government, AP® Comparative Government and AP® Macroeconomics. In 2002, Gabby was named Teacher of the Year for Berkmar High School. Then, in 2008, Gabby was named an Excellence in Online Education recipient by Pearson Education. Finally, in 2010, Gabby was named a finalist for the iNACOL/SREB National Online Teacher of the Year. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and their three children. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking and running (especially half-marathons!).
Kate Adams, Instructional Coordinator
Kate joined Mosaica Online in 2013 and serves as Instructional Coordinator. Prior to Mosaica, Kate was the Mathematics Department Chair at Gwinnett Online Campus, a virtual school associated with Gwinnett County Public Schools. She has over 14 years of teaching, coaching and leadership experience in Education and has specifically worked with online schooling since 2004. Kate holds a Master’s degree in Math Education from Piedmont College as well as a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. In 2000 she was recognized by the University of Georgia as Math Education Teacher of the Year.
Ashley Pierce, Instructional Coordinator
Kim LeRoy, Curriculum Implementation Manager & Special Education Coordinator
Kim joined Mosaica Online in 2009 with over 15 years of experience working in Education. As Curriculum Implementation Manager and Special Education Coordinator, Kim works with Mosaica Online teachers to implement curriculum to meet state standards and engage students. She assists with school improvement plans and teacher evaluations as well as the coordination of special education programs and services. Prior to joining Mosaica Online, Kim was a District-Level Lead Intervention Specialist in Greeley, Colorado. She was also a Master Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Art Director and Coach for various schools in Oregon. Kim holds a Master’s degree in Education and Training from Pacific University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Art Management from the University of Northern Colorado. Additionally, she is a certified life coach by the Coach Training Alliance.
Paula Galland, Program Implementation Specialist
Paula joined Mosaica Online in 2011 after over 40 years as an educator in Georgia teaching high school and working as a library media specialist at the school and district level. As a Program Implementation Specialist, Paula oversees special programs and projects relating to Mosaica Online students in our school partnerships and online private school programs. Paula has been honored as the Apple Educator for the Year in Georgia, as Georgia Media Specialist of the Year, and as Brunswick High School’s Teacher of the Year. A graduate of Vanderbilt University with graduate work at Georgia Southern University and the University of Georgia, Paula has been involved in distance education throughout her career with experience as an online course developer, teacher and administrator with Georgia Virtual School, the Glynn County, Georgia school district and with Mosaica Online. Paula and her husband have two grown sons and live on St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia. Working online fits perfectly with Paula’s travel addiction, and she has visited six of the Earth’s continents recently "Rounding the Horn” on the tip of South America. Her other passions are reading and exploring new technologies.
Becky Thompson, K-12 Counselor & Biology Instructor
Becky joined the Mosaica team as an instructor in 2014. She now serves as the K-12 Guidance Counselor and Biology instructor. 15 years ago, Becky returned to rural Eastern Colorado schools to began her educational career. She has taught a variety of science courses at the High School and College levels as well as serving as a High School Guidance Counselor. In 2000 she was awarded the Counselor of the Year award from the Colorado School Counselor Association. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Colorado State University Pueblo and her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix. She started her online career with Karval Online as a High School Biology teacher before coming to Mosaica. She and her family live outside Limon, Colorado where they farm and ranch. She is an avid horseman and enjoys sharing her passion with the local 4-H chapters.
